Club's campaign against homophobia inspires their first official LGBTQ+ supporter group

Southampton's campaign against homophobia earlier this season has inspired fans to form Rainbow Saints, the club's first official LGBTQ+ supporter group.

The group's founders Max Lindsay and Will Morgan say the spark was the "No Place for Homophobia in Southampton" campaign, which was launched with the club's kit supplier hummel in September to promote inclusivity and champion support for Southampton’s LGBTQ+ community.

Meet Rainbow Saints

"Me and Will were inspired to set it up because of the mural and the pride kits, because we saw that Saints were making a massive effort in engaging with anti-homophobia," says Max in the video above.

"What I think we really now want is more Southampton fans in the city coming and joining in, getting involved, both people from the LGBTQ+ community and also allies, people who want to stand up and stand beside us. That is really important for us to have."

To celebrate the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces campaign, taking place this week, members of Rainbow Saints will be guests at Saturday's fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion and will make an appearance on the pitch at half-time.

Southampton will now work with Rainbow Saints to enhance the experience of their LGBTQ+ fanbase.
